Following The Chemical Brothers and Super Furry Animals incredible headline sets, The Hazel Wood offers the perfect solitude, where we retreat to watch Cathy Davey launch her new album. In an Electric Picnic exclusive, it’s the first place for anyone to hear the album – the first release from the artist in six years.

This midnight performance saw Cathy play the new album in full, one of which was written in a forest. The setting couldn’t be more ideal; the gentle serenity complementing the tranquil tones of Cathy Davey, which soon fill up the dwelling. An artist like no other, it’s a wonder why she waited so long to bring out this latest release, but we are certainly fortunate to gain this unique insight into what she has been up to.

The Hazel Wood is full to the brim of enthusiastic fans who are hanging onto her every syllable. It’s three songs in before she addresses us, but when she does it’s words of thanks for joining her.

Moments like this are what makes Electric Picnic so special, away from the noise and commotion of the Main Stage in what feels like a secret gig, secluded by the trees; this is a real treat. Everyone is intently listening, just enjoying the moment for what it is.
