Curtains Pulled at Roscommon Cinema

cinemaFlix cinema in Roscommon have closed their doors and posted a sign up saying “Regretfully, Flix Cinema and Leisure is closed until further notice”.

Unfortunately it is a sign of the times as not only are people strapped of cash but they are unwilling to pay to go see a movie that they can download at home for free.

Let’s face it, the cinema is a rip off, €6-€8 for a ticket then another tenner for popcorn and a drink and that is before the sneaky pint afterwards.

Every year I say I will go to the cinema more but alas it never happens, still though when I do I love it. Microwave popcorn while watching a bad quality movie on a small laptop screen just does not live up to the magic of the movies. The cinema is an experience and nothing matches up to a theater full of people laughing, crying or screaming in unison at the scene unfolding on the big screen.

Flix cinema is part of a larger leisure development which holds five cinema screens, a leisure zone and a children’s play area. The centre employs 50 people so it is sad to see it closed.

Whether the close is permanent or temporary remains to be seen. A facility like that in Roscommon is great to have and not one that many counties have at their disposal so we hope it is a temporary thing.

Do you go to the cinema much or prefer to download?

It is an awful shame considering there is very little of the sort around. Fingers crossed it reopens
