Roscommon “Scor”s High at Regional Final

danceA high level of talent was on display at the Scor na Nog Connacht  final in Castlebar on Saturday.

Each county brought a strong team but in the end Roscommon made history and made their mark in the competition securing a number of titles for their county and a place in the national final.

First to take to the stage were the Figure Dancers from St. Dominics who danced ‘The High Cauled Cap’. The girls gave a perfectly polished performance and made history by becoming the first group to bring the title home for Roscommon for 16 years.

Joining them in the National Final will be the Novelty Group from Padraig Pearses who had the audience in the palm of their hand with their hilarious piece entitled “Flight EIEIO”.

Peter Hoey of St Barry’s done well in the solo singing giving a powerful rendition of “Raglan Road” however this title went to Galway. Roscommon also barley missed out on the  Ceol Uirlise and Recitation events though in both the Roscommon contestants performed excellently. The ballad group from St Dominic’s sang with pride but were bet to the title by Mayo while Sligo took the title in the questions round and Mayo also won over St Dominic’s in the Rince Seit.

The All Ireland Scór na nÓg Final 2013 will be held in ‘The Venue’ at the Ebrington Pavillion in Derry City on Saturday February 23rd. This is an all ticket event with tickets priced at €20. Ticket orders must be with Runaí Coiste Scór Roscomáin no later than this Friday, February 1st.
