]]>Things are heating up for the Dublin indie rock outfit Penrose, who have not only released two new videos in recent weeks but also won a spot performing at Sea Sessions.
With gigs planned for the UK and Canada, 2016 is shaping up to be a busy year for the band who will launch their single ‘Sign On’ in Dublin’s Grand Social on May 21.
The video for Sign On features actor Bryan Quinn who is best known for starring in “Dad’s Best Friend” by The Rubberbandits.
Both songs are a refreshing reminder of how good Penrose are. Their music offers easy listening, which is both radio friendly and memorable. It’s accessible, being that it’s both very good and bursting with talent without turning off those who enjoy more of a pop sound.
The addition of these highly produced, quirky videos puts them on par with bands like Oasis and Kasabian for sheer creativity and thinking outside the lines.
We highly recommend checking out Penrose as soon as you can.

]]>Towards the end of 2015, I joined the Outtake Media group in Longford with a few other budding filmmakers, in a project called “Making TV to Remember”.
The idea behind the project was for us all to make a short video documentary which would capture something about the past within the County of Longford.
For thirty years, my Grandad Noel McGeeney worked on, and campaigned to get the Royal Canal in Longford cleaned up, and fully restored, bringing the harbour back into the Market Square.
The photograph above is my Grandads house, and as you can see the harbour took over the square. As a young boy, Grandad swam in the harbour and canal, and often recalled fond memories.
This video documentary captures just some of the tourism possibilities that could happen if proper work was done on the canal. It is a testament to the work my Grandad began, with the hope that one day his dream will come true.

]]>A four piece from Co. Dublin, The Klares are school friends who decided to form a band in their spare time. It soon became overwhelmingly clear that they were going places.
While most teens spend their spare time twiddling their thumbs, visiting relatives and watching daytime TV, these four rock-stars are touring Ireland and gigging the festival scene. Not only that, but they were also jetted to Portugal for an all expenses paid private gig and have played at YouBloom in LA.
With two highly acclaimed EP’s under their belt, the band are receiving rave reviews and are pegged as the best band to come out of Ireland in a generation (no pressure); not bad for a bunch of lads who have yet to sit the Leaving Cert.
Ahead of their gig in Monroe’s Live as part of Rocktoberfest, The Klares popped into me in the Flirt FM studios for a catch up. Check it out:

]]>A sassy but soulful storyteller, Steven Sharpe tells tales about life and love with hilarious results. A blend of comedy with catchy lyrics and beautiful melodies, he has the ability to capture the reality of being gay, and the struggles faced on a daily basis.
A mix of spoken word, songs and theater, Steven has a unique way of portraying a message that speaks to a wide audience.
Speaking out about what everyone else is thinking but too afraid to say, but in a way nobody else could ever say it, he sing so everyone can relate.
Many songs communicate dating disasters that people of any sexuality can identify with. On a deeper level are the songs that emphasize the feelings surrounding coming out, family reactions and how it felt in the time leading up to the equality referendum.
Self-confessed about being angry on some of the issues and how some people can view same sex couples, Steven’s passion is evident in his music.
His lyrics are beautiful and truthful, while his performances are powerful, dramatic and entertaining. If you don’t know who Steven Sharpe is, you need to learn.
