Just before Christmas I got a delightful package including Davie Furey Easy Come Easy Go, and a handwritten letter from Davie himself which I still have by my CD collection.

This wasn’t my first introduction to the artist as we had been in contact through social media, however it was my first insight into what a genuine character he is. While reviewers receive throngs of email submissions, it’s rare these days to get a physical CD; it does happen, but not as often.

However, to receive a hand written letter – not a press pack – was something quite new as Davie took the time to see what was going on in my life and wish me well, rather than just send a generic typed promo about himself. So from the offset, I was impressed.

Easy Come Easy Go is a more traditional country folk album than I would usually listen to, but is definitely very strong in its genre. It’s lively with lots of soul and gives an immediate buoyant feel; it would lift a silent room to its feet and have them jiving in no time.

A talented songwriter and musician, Davie manages to animate a feeling of moving and travel both through the lyrics and the rhythm and motion of the music.

He paints a picture of dancing under starlight, making the most of life enjoying love and laughs along the way.

The idea of home is prominent in the album, as while travel is reoccurring, home is always where the heart is and this is also reflected in his love and pride for Ireland.

Parts of the album allow you to sit back and enjoy the music, with songs like Saved and Tara creating a beautiful atmospheric feel while other songs like Good to Be Back Home, Strong Wind Blowin’ and The Sky’s Alive make you want to get up, have a jig and embrace the fun of the music.

Easy Come Easy Go is a testament to Davie Furey’s talents as an entertainer, and most definitely would make you want to enjoy his live performance.
