Dublin’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival gets into full swing with a weekend of rockabilly
This bank holiday weekend will be full of cool cats, hip do’s and some swinging clothes; not to mention the best rock ‘n’ roll in town. The Dublin Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival is back but bigger and better than before.
A free event, lovers of all things retro can enjoy a full weekend of rockabilly music, rock-n-roll, fast cars, motorcycles, 50’s frocks and bobby socks. Make sure you get in on the action by dressing up for the occasion.
On Friday, July 31, the festival kicks off with a rock ‘n’ roll dance off in The Mercantile. Presented by swingscene.ie, this event gives you dancing queens the opportunity to shine and show off your best moves. Followed by live music from The Jive Cats, you’ll get to hear the grooviest beats of the era.
Also on the night, Dublin’s hippest barber presents a night of music in Sweeney’s bar. Featuring Johny Strom Crow, Dublin City Rounders, Slim Jim and the Bone Breakers, The Rockets and MTBA, it promises to be a great night and is free.
Alternatively, head down to Thomas House to catch The Pole Cats. This is a ticketed event.
Start the day early on Saturday by getting to Dame Court at 12 noon where there will be a class vintage car display. Classic American Motors Ireland V8 will be on hand bringing 18 of some of the most amazing Hot Rods and streetcars straight from the vintage days of the USA.
Prove that you have the best style in town by joining the rock ‘n’ roll fashion show at 8pm in The Mercantile. Wear your best polka dot frock, quiff up that hair and prepare for a great night of dress-up fun.
Dublin is full of music again on Saturday night with Abner Brown’s Sweeney’s stage presenting The Sweeneys Jazzmen, Creaky Bonesand more while Mongrel State will play The Globe. Again, all free. There is another ticketed event in The Thomas House from 8pm with a performance from The Delta City Bombers.
Dust off those cobwebs on Sunday as the party is not over. The BUMBLEance motorcycle rally will start at the Garden of Remembrance and work their way across the city. The ending will coincide with the grand finale of the Rock-N-Roll marathon in Phoenix Park. The whole event will coincide with the BUMBLEance services, raising money and awareness for the work they do.
From 8pm in BeepBops BopShop, Rockabilly Queen will be playing the greatest in Rockabilly rock-n-roll at Dublin’s newest and coolest hop house! Free Entrance all night.
Finally, the weekend will end on an incredible high in Whelan’s with The Hot Sprockets, The Mighty Steph and The 45s.
